I decided that I needed to try out Nick's gear before he deployed just to make sure everything was working properly! Nick left for his first deployment on March 28, 2008 (which was our 3 month anniversary..."happy anniversary-I'm leaving!) to Al Asad, Iraq a.k.a. "the sandbox." This is something you can never really prepare for. We knew that this deployment was coming up but when it came down to it, it was still very hard to say that final goodbye not knowing what was to come.
