Europe Trip 2008

The pictures are a little out of order and mixed up....sorry!
We flew into Paris, France and spent a couple of days there.  Next we took a train to Burgos, Spain then down to Barcelona.  From there we travelled by train through Southern France (Marseille, Cannes, Nice, Monaco) and on to Rome, Italy.  We spent a rainy night and day in Rome and then on to Interlaken, Switzerland.  From here we went back to Paris for a night and then caught our flight back to the wonderful U S of A!!!

We got our backpacks on and we are ready to head to Europe!

The amazing Eiffel tower

This is one of the towers that the Olympians stayed in during the Barcelona Olympics.
Life-size sculpture of Hercules at the Louvre in Paris
This was a church we passed in Switzerland-it was so beautiful with the snowy mountains in the background.
I'm in confession at St. Peter's Basilica at Vatican City (not really confessing).
This is one of the many beautifully ornate rooms at the famous cathedral in Burgos, Spain (the town some of my family came from)
Here is the entrance to the "Catedral de Burgos"
The Eiffel Tower at night!

Here is a lake outside of Interlaken, Switzerland-
We went to have dinner at this restaurant near our hotel in Interlaken in which I was called out of the crowd to play this giant instrument...you had to blow in just right (like a flute) in order for sound to come out...I obviously got NO sound...so everyone laughed.
Interlaken, Switzerland
This looked like the perfect pile of leaves to run and jump into!
Doesn't he look like a little Swiss statue?

We had to try some local food...
This was a beautiful, open park in the middle of the town but the grass is all frozen and there were piles of snow around it.

We tried some Italian Gelato in Rome, Italy.
Here is the famous fountain at the bottom of the Spanish steps in Rome.
There is me getting wet on the Spanish steps.

These are statues at the top of St. Peter's in Vatican City.
St. Peter's

This is a map made of cloth that was embroidered...it was huge!
The Arc of Triumph across from the Coliseum in Rome.
Nick and I inside the Coliseum

This was taken from inside our train as we are passing by Monaco in the south of France.

This is a model of the Burgos cathedral

It's a massive wok!

Christopher Columbus pointing to the New World from Barcelona, Spain.
You can see a little of the Mediterranean Sea in the background.
The port of Barcelona where cruise ships and imports come.
18th century castle on the summit of Montjuic (in Barcelona)
It's now a military museum with an extensive display of ancient weaponry.
Barcelona, Spain.
Palau Nacional (National Palace)
houses Barcelona's most important art collection
This was an incredible street painter who did these paintings with spray paint.
My first experience sleeping on a train...thankfully this one we had all to ourselves!
From the top of the Eiffel Tower...what a view of Paris!  It was freezing up there!!!
We could see the Arc De Triumph from the top of the Eiffel Tower.
In the Louvre...look how huge that painting is!!!

The famous Mona Lisa...it's really small!

Notre-Dame

The Seine River
A typical street in Paris....
